We’re starting to drill well number 1 (out of 200). For a recap on our water project in South Sudan, click here. We chose our first well site based on urgency. In this case the situation is not just urgent, it’s a crisis. The Government of South Sudan states that their citizens are ‘at the bottom of all humanity‘. 4 million people in South Sudan have been displaced with no where to call home as a result of decades of civil war. Many have come to a camp in Rumbek, the capital city of one of the ten states in Sudan. The camp was established to house these displaced returnees for 72 hours maximum as they passed through on their way to permanent resettlement. The problem is there is no place for them to resettle; that is, no place with water, therefore no place to resettle. Now they have been there for 3 months, the camp (with no running water) is full and they are expecting more returnees to come in the next couple weeks. And so our first well site has been chosen. The provision of this well will allow the people to move out of the camp and onto permanent land where they can begin to make their new lives. There could not be a better spot for this project to get started.
Our Rainmaker Auction, hosted on eBay Giving Works, is going directly into our efforts to drill these 200 much needed water wells and Lady Antebellum, 6 time Grammy Award-winning trio, is on board with the cause. The band has donated a VIP Concert Package in Vancouver, which includes a backstage passes to meet the band. Don’t forget that 100% of all proceeds go to our water project and it’s happening NOW. This is just one of many amazing items that you can bid on and make great gifts for the holidays. More top items up today from Michael Bublé and Sugarland.
