Taylor Swift for Peace in Sudan
November 4, 2011

Everyday illegal weapons contribute to the deaths of many in South Sudan as tensions and turmoil rise over scarce resources and fractured hopes. As the dry season continues and water sources become even more of a rarity the stress that exists between the tribes will escalate. The UN and the Government of South Sudan have relayed with confidence that the Obakki Foundation’s commitment to clean water is exactly what is needed to start weaving the people together and initiate the pursuit of peace. With peace comes development and the chance of a new life.
Taylor Swift is a stand for peace in Sudan. She’s donated a beautiful AUTOGRAPHED acoustic guitar, case included, to our Rainmaker Auction, hosted on eBay Giving Works, alongside many of her famous friends such as Carrie Underwood & Kenny Chesney, Colbie Callait and more. We’ve already started drilling well #1. Help us get to 200.

Garth Brooks Makes it Rain
November 3, 2011

It’s day 3 (of 14) of the Rainmaker Auction on eBay. The dry season has started in South Sudan, which means our Obakki Foundation ground personnel are already on-site preparing to drill. Let’s shine some light on the subject: 6 million people are living without clean water in Sudan as a result of 40 years of civil war. 1 well can supply 1 whole village with clean water. Last season we drill 100 wells. This season our goal is to drill 200. That’s 200 villages with clean water which translates to about 200,000 mothers, children and brothers with a new chance at life. Become a part of that change. Be a RAINMAKER.
As promised more new items have been released for the auction (and will be released each evening). When Garth Brooks, the man who made country music “a worldwide phenomenon”, heard about our efforts he decided to donate one of his very own guitars. And because that wasn’t enough, he decided to also personalize a signed message to the winning bidder of this one-of-a kind auction item. Amazing.

The Rainmaker Auction: Launches with Beyonce
November 1, 2011

Today is the official launch date of our Obakki Foundation Rainmaker Auction on eBay. 100% of the proceeds go to our clean water project: drilling wells for South Sudan. Learn more about the cause here. Of course we’re kicking it off with a bang and what could be bigger than the Queen B herself, Beyonce.
Beyonce has been gracious enough to sign and donate a full sized framed poster of her new album cover “4″. In the United States, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 310,000 copies in its first week. It also became a number-one chart hit in several other countries. With singles like “Run the World (Girls)” and “Best Thing I Never Had” it is obvious that Beyonce never really left and is bigger and better than ever.
What’s to come today? Here’s just a little taste of what we’ve got in store for you:
Katy Perry
Tenacious D
Anne Rice
Keith Urban
Ke$ha

I Am Alda
August 3, 2011
Alda is part of our “Who Are You?” campaign, which began in Cameroon, Africa and has spread around the world. We gave her a disposable camera to give us a glimpse into her life. Alda is a poet. When Alda’s mother was diagnosed with a heart condition at the age of 17 and told she would soon die, she never gave up fighting her disease, having Alda and living for many years. Alda’s mother sacrificed so much and when she finally did become too ill to care for herself, Alda put her own life on hold for a decade to care for her mother. Alda lives in Portugal with her son, an illustrator and a 3D designer. He’s also a self-taught musician using the guitar her mother gave him as a thank you for all of the time and patience he gave during her illness. Alda is a beautiful soul.

You’ll always be what you feel, no matter what you do.
I only go forward…always and against all odds.
I feel so lucky because I have a happy heart.
Life commands life itself: we make choices and decisions but somehow life will put you right in the place you are meant to be.
My mother was a truly special and shining person. She was a warrior.
The most precious thing we have in life is the love from our family and friends.
I love the sea. I like to spend time at the beach so I can listen to my soul.
Trees remind me of my mom – strong.
When I’m on a hill looking over a valley with the sun above me, I can hear my own answers much better inside me. It’s also where I feel my mom much more close to me.
I’ve always been a person without my own life because maybe I’m a workaholic and I’m always forgetting about me as I help everyone else…I still don’t have much time but I’m learning…better late than never!
Hours before my mother passed away, she heard my son play a song he composed for her over the phone. Listening to him, she smiled her final, most beautiful smile.
It really doesn’t matter what might happen with us, what others might think or say, because we are only what we feel and who we love.
The same way I love you
And you can never truly know
‘Cause time won’t wait for you
Or for me
The sun won’t wait for you
Or for me
But love…
Yes, love!
Will always be
Waiting for you and for me.
I Am Deborah
July 27, 2011
Deborah is part of our “Who Are You?” campaign, which began in Cameroon, Africa and has spread around the world. We gave her a disposable camera to give us a glimpse into her life. Deborah is many things for many people: mother, grandmother, scout leader, designer, pet owner, gardener and even belly dancer. Living in Alberta with her husband Earl and three children, Deborah is the heart of her family.

I am me.
Living in Alberta, I love the fact that we can play in the snow while wearing summer clothes.
I married to a loving and caring husband named Earl and have three amazing kids: Amy, Chelsea and Sandy.
I am grandmother to the cutest girls in the world, Sophia and Maria.
Working on my daughter’s graduation dress.
Me and my daughter, Sandy.
My cat, Maximus

I Am Frederica
July 21, 2011
Frederica is part of our “Who Are You?” campaign, which began in Cameroon, Africa and has spread around the world. We gave her a disposable camera to give us a glimpse into her life. Frederica is, in her words, a communicator—which is a good thing, because the love of her life lives on another continent! In the England, Frederica pursues her passion for communication through writing and design. She recently launched her own website, Studio Fabriq, which we think looks fabulous. Her pictures were taken on a recent trip to visit her boyfriend, Joseph, and his family in Australia.

Being in a relationship with an Australian, travel is also the stuff of commitment, pursuit, trust, love and fairy tale.
To some, writing is a paycheck. To others, it is power. To me, it is priceless.
Travelling is my greatest Teacher. It flushes fresh inspiration and a spicy element into the aesthetic and style of my work.
My boyfriend and his sister were adopted. Legacy of the Adopted Child (author unknown) sums up the experience for their mother (pictured with me):
Once there were two women who never knew each other.
One you do not remember, the other you call Mother.
Two different lives shaped to make you one.
One became your guiding star, the other became your sun.
My mother is at the very core of my inspiration to communicate and express myself creatively. As a fashion designer, her work speaks with a unique voice and personality that underscores her passion for the craft. Those are her designs hanging in a store window!
As a marketing communications specialist and freelance fashion copywriter, to sketching my own designs, I have always worn my heart on paper.
Studio Fabriq is a space where I hope to honour the marriage between fashion and decor with a focus on narrative and a love for design.
I Am Silke
July 18, 2011
Silke is part of our “Who Are You?” campaign, which began in Cameroon, Africa and has spread around the world. We gave her a disposable camera to give us a glimpse into her life. Silke recently began working at a chemist in Austria, where she lives in the main floor of her family’s home with her boyfriend, Kurt, while they search for an apartment. She excels at everything from creating elaborately intricate crafts to being one of only three female black belts in Iaido since her club’s foundation in 1976. As an only child, Silke’s friends are incredibly important to her and she loves spending time in nature. Silke is a beautiful work in progress.

We have cats, including Tiffany, the diva of the house.
The house where my boyfriend and I live with my parents used to belong to my grandparents. The worst thing in my whole life was the death of my grandparents.
Wrapping presents is something I do with all of my heart and creativity. My friend got married and asked for money for their honeymoon to Canada, so I “wrapped” the present in a little campground including a bear and folded the money into shirts on a clothesline.
Simple things like seeing the sunrise in the rear-view mirror on my way to work make me feel really good. Also, when I’m reading, listening to music or doing crafts I can forget everything around me.
I started making gifts for friends as a student with no money, but now I am proud of them and people look forward to receiving them, so I’m thinking about selling them online. We’ll see
I love to feed squirrels in the park and geocaching—a global, GPS treasure hunt. The picture shows the first cache I found years ago (it’s still there for others to find).
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day.
Playing cards with my friends, Sissy and Martin. Having friends who are always there when you need them is a gift which is priceless.
I love shoes!
Two of the three most important people in my family: my dad in the garden and my mom watering her plants.
I’m not good at taking care of plants but this little fellow is survival of the fittest, so I’ve divided it to give to my friends.
