Introduction

In Cameroon, where resources and medical access for families are scarce, young children are often abandoned. Left on doorsteps or by the side of the road, many don’t survive. The lucky ones find their way to places like Hotpec Orphanage.

Despite the tireless efforts of the small staff, Hotpec Orphanage was struggling when we first arrived. There was no electricity and often no food. Children slept four to a bed while babies were crammed side-by-side into the few available cots. Many of them were docile and lethargic; some shrank from human contact.

For most of the more than 250 children, Hotpec is the only home they have ever known.

The Obakki Foundation has contributed to Hotpec for many years in a variety of ways, including infrastructure, supplies, beds, equipment and nutritional support.

Hotpec provides a home and education to over 250 children, ranging in age from newborns to 18 years old.
