Treana sends a message to the kids who gave clean water to the students at Gol Meen Elementary School

April 9, 2014

After raising over $8,000 to drill a water well in Riak Dor, South Sudan, the 64 students of Cypress Park School decided they would rally together again to raise another water well for a community of kids in South Sudan. Working together, they raised another $8,000 for Gol Meen, giving the school and the rest of the community there a clean water well.

During her last trip to South Sudan, Treana stopped by Gol Meen to visit with the community and to send a message back to the kids of Cypress Park.

As you can see in the video above, the impact the water well has made is truly remarkable. With clean water nearby, the students of Gol Meen are able to attend school, free of the hours-long search for water that would’ve burdened them and taken them away from the classroom in the past. With education, this next generation will be able to pursue a whole range of opportunities that would have been out of reach for generations prior.

Thanks to clean water, they can now go to school and empower themselves with one of the strongest tools against poverty, violence and illness: education.
