Water Changes Everything

Watch the transformation that occurs when clean water arrives at a village

February 25, 2014

When Treana visited Malith, South Sudan last, it was to do a site assessment for the new water well that was to be drilled there. The village rested upon barren, cracked earth – the nearest water source was an arduous three-hour round trip trek away, and that source was from a dangerously unclean swamp. Without the foundation of water, development in all other areas of life was virtually impossible.

All of that is different today.

The change that clean water has brought to the community is as amazing as it is varied. The community is not only able to satisfy their basic need for clean water now, but they are also able to expand in every other area of life: agriculture, economy, education and conflict reduction. Exploring the village now, it’s incredible how much change has happened in a matter of weeks.

Without the urgent pressure to find water every day, the community is able to come together now. Families connect over a meal, children attend the nearby school and community members have the time to focus on household duties or making money for their families.

They’re able to lead the lives they deserve – none of that would have been possible without water.
